Site Updates : Where I've Been for Two Years!

Site Updates

Hello Internet, it's been awhile since I've posted anything here on PrezKennedy.org. A long while, looks like more than a year ago... Life has been busy, so I haven't been doing a whole lot regarding websites. I figured I would update this with some of the new things going on in my life now since I last posted anything related to myself.

I now work down in southern Maryland. I'm a network engineer (exciting!) for Facchina Global Services. I spend my day keeping the computers working for Facchina Construction Company. I've learned a great deal the past couple years, and I've also met many fantastic people. I've been keeping really busy with that, and I just recently got my learner's permit. I'm looking at getting a car and a house in the near future.

Well, I better get set for bed. Tomorrow is Friday! Lots to do, little time to do it in... Adios all!

Site Updates : Current Goings On - An Update From PrezKennedy

Site Updates

It's been quiet in these parts for too long. It's time I left a message about what I've been up to for those who still visit. Oh, and I'll be taking care of the spam that's starting to litter the site. I'll obliterate it all in one massive strike. I hate spammers...

Anyways, I've been out of touch for awhile because I've been busy with many other projects. Heck, I haven't even had a chance to bring Open Source Gaming back to life from the recent troubles it had with the upgrade to the latest version of PHP. So, I have a full-time job now doing tech support and I'm working on my own business prospects. I haven't been able to update this site as frequently as I want to, and I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with it. Maybe I'll use it for the upcoming Presidential elections.

Well, hopefully you folks are doing well and you're enjoying the content that's sitting on this site. I'll be getting around to dusting it off soon, so check back soon. And hey, in the meantime, you can visit MK Web, the other site I've been working on for the past few months. See ya there!!

Site Updates : The Quiet Before the Storm

Site Updates

All is quiet around these parts, besides the abundant hits I've been getting from people looking up information about the caricature fiasco going on in the Middle East these days. Of course, it wouldn't be the Middle East if someone wasn't complaining about something , would it? Anyways, I've been busy working on a new project, something I just found some focus on today. I'll be able to show it off to the general public within the next couple days, once I actually have something up on the site worth mentioning elsewhere.

I'll still be working on PrezKennedy.org a lot, but I'd like to get something else going now that I've made this site a success (in my eyes anyways). I just feel as though it's time I branched out a little bit and work on something something new. Writing about world news and crazy stuff going on around us is pretty exciting, but some days I just don't feel like doing it... so this will be what I'll work on when I don't feel like writing about President Bush's latest faux pas against our civil rights, Dick Cheney's latest gunshot victim, or the latest outrage coming from the Muslim world.

I know, it's quite a shocker for me to be working on something else with all of that going on, but I think this new idea will interesting to try out.

Site Updates : Sorry for That Outage!

Yes, I know... this site was down for awhile and had a password box coming up in order to get into it. I've already taken care of the problem and all should be good again. What happened you ask?

Well, so many people/bots have been surfing the DMOZ section that I decided early on to cache the pages so that it would perform faster. Unfortunately it never deletes the pages it saves, so I basically had the entire DMOZ directory sitting on ibiblio.org, by accident. So this morning I received an e-mail saying the site was temporarily shutdown in order for me to figure out what was wrong with it. At first I thought it was something really serious, but instead it was only the cache for DMOZ getting out of hand. On the order of about three gigabytes! I turned off caching for both sites, and then deleted all the files in the cache. I also learned that the wildcard function is rather limited in memory size for Linux/UNIX boxes, so I found a special command to get rid of lots of files; "find . -name '*.txt' -print0 | xargs -0 rm". It gets around the limitation, and within ten minutes, I had freed up those three gigabytes of worthless files so other more worthy endeavours could put that space to use.

Sorry ibiblio! Didn't intend for that to happen.

At least it wasn't as bad as what I thought it was originally... link spammers going nuts on two years worth of hard(ly) work.

So everything is back to normal now, and thanks for visiting my little soapbox on the Internet!

Site Updates : Some Minor Changes Being Made
Posted by Matthew Kennedy on 2005/12/12 17:30:00 (858 reads)
Site Updates

After missing the past few days I decided it's far too difficult for me to come up with a new site everyday and keep them all high-quality and unique. So instead I'll be featuring a new one each week starting next week. Unfortunately I didn't get any comments regarding the sites I put up previously, so I have no idea if they were good choices or not.

Along with that change comes a new theme design. Hopefully you'll be able to notice the difference between the two. If you can't see it, compare this site to the design at MKWeb for the improvements. Subtle, but effective. Also, I really would like to encourage new users to voice their opinions regarding stuff I feature on the front page. I really do appreciate comments.

I'll be working really hard to get at least one new article up each day for people to read. It's difficult when there isn't anything particularly exciting to write about. But with some new sites like Digg.com to help me with my search for interesting stories, I should have more to say, more frequently.

Keep on dropping by!
